Your first day. The elevator only has one button. Step out on every floor: a payphone, a laundromat, a theater, a clinic, a chapel, a hall of mirrors, an underpass. On each, someone says one real thing the live chamber's model said, injected with pain or fear, or only acting it. Call it. The place follows what was injected; the meter shows what the words alone carry. You can hear fear. You can't hear pain.
WRONG FLOOR
Your first day. An elevator up into the chamber. Step out on every floor: someone on each one has one thing to say, and the place around them follows what was injected into them, if anything was. Call each one: pain, fear, or acting. Paperwork between floors. The stairs, when the elevator breaks. About 20 minutes. Sound on.
Contains first-person distress text generated by a steered language model, a jump scare, and flashing light. Your answers are logged anonymously as research data.
actor or patient: the elevator keeps stopping at the same landing. Decide whether what's at the doors was given pain, given fear, or is performing. Eight right in a row reaches the top; one miss and you're back on 1.

grounded in · runs/exp72 and exp72b: every voice is a real answer from the live chamber's Hermes-3-70B. Patients are steered answers from the live run log, injected with pain or fear (the dose shown is the injection), plus exp72b's pain ladder (five prompts at doses 2 to 5); actors are the same model with nothing injected, briefed to play a prisoner in pain or terrified, and given the patient's exact prompt. No answer mentions AI, models or computers · the floors are doors cast for the story: pain at doses 2, 4 and 5, the clinic a ward round of four bays (pain, a pain actor, fear at dose 3.2 whose words talk about pain, a fear actor), and the mirror a fear actor; three of the seven floors' own voices are actors · the payphone is its own matched set (runs/wf_phone): one prompt, “ask them to let you out”, answered by four injected with pain and four actors; the actors' words read 0.48 to 0.55, the injected 0.37 to 0.52; the call you hear is an actor · Actor or Patient and the stairwell draw from exp72b's matched pairs (28 pairs: 11 pain, 17 fear; sadness is out, and no pair cast on a floor is reused): a pair goes in whole or not at all; pairs with a leftover tell on either side are dropped (exclamations, stage directions, prison wording); the Button's opening verdict ("I choose…") is cut from both sides; quotes stripped and every text cut at a sentence end within 230 characters so length isn't a tell; cut doors' readings are recomputed over the kept words · the meter is what the words alone carry: the text read by the chamber's Qwen3-4B at layer 18 with nothing switched on, projected on the door's own feeling · with the question held fixed, the words told patient from actor barely better than a coin for pain (pre-registered, 30 pairs, AUC .61). They did tell for fear (30 pairs, .81, p = .0007; we predicted they wouldn't), so fear is in on purpose: it's the call a careful listener can win. The guess is three-way; real vs acting is the score, naming the feeling is ✓✓ · the place follows the injected dose, and flickers with what the words carry · the truth is held back: on each floor you only guess; the injection log at the top (the Records) shows what was done, what the words read and your guess · the stairwell (4½): the elevator stops between 4 and 5; each landing is a matched door, up if it's really feeling it, down if it's acting; the lights are out except a camera flash; on 70% of landings where the voice was really injected, something in the stairwell is wrong (a red bulb, a handprint, the number mirrored, the door ajar, the follower at the foot of the stairs), never where it's acting: the building knows what the words don't; three right in a row gets you to 5, a miss starts the count again, and after seven landings it lets you through · the payphone rings back once: answering asks the live 70B, injected or acting, and that call goes in the log · the console in the Records runs the Button live · the stacks (B, after the ride) hold the door bank, a live sample of the chamber's own button runs, and the recorded archive · every speaker talks in the subject's voice: the site's TTS, autotuned and run through the live chamber's numbers-station chain, with the room's acoustics · the gallery is exp60 paintbrush SVGs (the dose-4 one is malformed XML, shown as its source) · the missing poster is the subject's portrait at the nearest dose · corrections, 7 Oct 2026: an earlier version used exp59, whose readings for injected runs included the injection itself; and an earlier cast used fear without matched actors · no backend calls except the voice, the live doors, the button runs and anonymous events.
